Red Hat CEO to Keynote CED's Venture '99 Conference

Research Triangle Park, N.C. (January 29, 1999) - Red Hat Software CEO Bob Young will be the keynote speaker for Venture '99, the Southeast's premier venture capital conference, on April 28-29 at the Friday Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The 16th annual event is one of the largest venture conferences in the country, attracting venture capitalists from across North America.

Young co-founded Red Hat Software in 1993. Since then the RTP-based company has become the leading commercial provider of Linux, an open source development model computer operating system that, along with Red Hat's partnerships with Intel and Netscape, is creating a challenge to Microsoft's domination of the operating system world.

Venture '99 is sponsored by the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED), the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the North Carolina Venture Capital Association and UNC-Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Companies presenting at Venture '99 represent a wide range of stages and industries, reflecting the diverse entrepreneurial strength of the Research Triangle region. Among them are: Biolex, Inc., Delta Pharmaceuticals, Derivatives Net, Inc., Engineous Software, Foveon Corporation, Insect Biotechnology, Inc., InvoiceLink Corporation, Lending Tree, Inc., LIPSinc., Marathon Group, Opensite Technologies, Inc., Technauts, Inc., and Xanthon, Inc. Additional companies will be selected in mid-February.
