CED Partners with Local Tech Wire

Partnership with Local Tech Wire Offers Enhanced Opportunities for Entrepreneurs

January 21, 2001, Research Triangle Park, NC - Today the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) announced that it has entered into a partnership with Local Tech Wire, Inc. (LTW), a new online subscription news service focused solely on reporting local technology news in North Carolina, Atlanta and the surrounding areas. LTW will provide entrepreneurs, investors, service professionals, academicians, researchers and public policy makers with a comprehensive source for local breaking technology news and resources.

LTW will be officially launched on Friday, January 25, at CED's Money & Markets 2002 conference, being held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Research Triangle Park.

LTW subscribers will have daily online access to exclusive stories, original content, breaking news and other features and resources geared solely to those interested in the region's technology market. The partnership offers LTW excellent access to the Triangle's entrepreneurial scene, and CED a new immediate outlet to promote technology news about the region through its periodic columns and other contributions posted on the LTW site.

LTW will be edited by Rick Smith, who has written about technology in North Carolina for several publications over the past several years. Allan Maurer, formerly of Local Business.com, is LTW's senior writer. Cal Chang Yocum and Charles Davidson (Atlanta), both former Local Business.com and Digital South writers, respectively, will be frequent contributors. LTW's corporate office is in Charlotte. LTW will utilize writers based in the Research Triangle, Charlotte, Atlanta and elsewhere.

"CED is very excited about the launch of Local Tech Wire," said Monica Doss, CED president. "It speaks volumes to the energy of this region, and we hope that this will encourage investors and entrepreneurs to take a closer look at what's going on in the Research Triangle and surrounding areas."

"Anyone involved in entrepreneurship in North Carolina is well aware of the important role CED plays in stimulating and supporting entrepreneurial growth. We look forward to covering CED as well as reporting on CED events and CED members," said Rick Smith, LTW Managing Editor.

"Our goal is to become the region's premier news organization in terms of covering all aspects of technology, from life sciences to venture funding. Despite the economic downturn of 2001 and the hard times experienced by many technology companies, this sector is crucial to the future of North Carolina and the Southeast. News is being made every day, and we intend to cover it."

LTW's Web site (www.localtechwire.com) will go live on January 25. After a brief trial period, subscribers will pay a monthly fee of $10.

The site will include breaking and investigative news as well as in-depth profiles, interviews and commentary. Other features include discussion groups and an events calendar. LTW also will publish opinion and commentary pieces submitted to the editor.
