March 31, 2003, Research Triangle Park, NC - The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) today announced that DeltaSphere and Quantum Genomics, both located in the Research Triangle area, will present at CED's upcoming Capital Connection Quarterly Luncheon.
CED's Capital Connection Luncheon showcases Capital Connection's premier emerging companies to the entrepreneurial and investment communities. DeltaSphere and Quantum Genomics will present their funding requirements and business strategies at the luncheon. The event will be held Wednesday, April 9, from 12 to 1:30 p.m., at the Radisson Governors Inn in the RTP. Seating is limited, and registration will close at 5 p.m. on April 4. More information on the luncheon presenters:
- DeltaSphere (www.deltasphere.com), founded on technology licensed from UNC, creates hardware/software instruments for capturing 3D measurements and models of the real world. The company's first 3D scanner, already on the market, captures real-world objects and locations including accident and crime scenes for investigation, analysis, security, and litigation. The company's product has broad applications for forensic science, military simulations, construction, and video games.
- Quantum Genomics produces cellular and animal models of the subtle mutations underlying most human diseases. These models enable customers in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries to accelerate the time for drug discovery from target validation through preclinical testing all the while yielding highly accurate and detailed information about drug mechanisms, sensitivities due to genetic variability and toxicology.
The April 9 luncheon also includes a three-person panel that will respond to the presenting entrepreneurs with questions, providing insight into what investors are looking for in investment opportunities. Panelists are Mike Preston, Malcolm Kendall of Bio Vista Partners, and Ed McCarthy, a partner from River Cities Capital Funds. Corporate sponsor for the event is Comerica Bank Technology and Life Sciences Division.
CED's Capital Connection Luncheon is part of CED's comprehensive Capital Connection mentoring program that assists entrepreneurs at various stages, from idea to initial funding, by providing mentors and instruction. Capital Connection (www.cednc.org/capitalconnection) provides entrepreneurs with tools to evaluate their ideas, refine their business concepts, develop business plans and raise capital. In addition to the luncheon series, another Capital Connection program is FastTrac Tech, a two-pronged course that includes lectures, discussion groups and workshops designed to assist entrepreneurs in business planning. A new FastTrac Tech course begins April 22.
