CED's Tech Forum Explores Government Resources

Jan. 21 Forum to Highlight Government as Customer, Funding Source

January 19, 2004, Research Triangle Park, NC - The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) will host its next Technology Forum, “Government as Your Customer: Exploring Alternative Revenue Opportunities,” on Jan. 21 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the MCNC Building in the RTP.

During the January Tech Forum, a group of panelists will discuss the government as a major funding engine and customer for many innovation-based companies. Experts on government funding will highlight SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) programs, which provide $1.6 billion each year in R&D funding to innovative businesses through grants and contracts.

Attendees will also gain insight from CEOs who have successfully grown their companies with government customers. Tech Forum participants will hear success stories from entrepreneurial executives like 3Dsolve's Richard Boyd, who will explain how his simulation learning solutions company has made a significant impact in the military training industry.

CED's January Tech Forum participants include the following:

  • Dr. Ellen Segan, Army Program Manager for the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program, Army Research Office
  • Dr. Robert J. Lontz, President, MRPath Incorporated
  • Mary Walker, Vice President of Business Development, MCNC Research & Development Institute
  • Mark Larson, Partner, Grant Thornton
