Former FCC Official Blair Levin to Keynote InfoTech 2004
CED Also Announces Panel Session Topics for 14th Annual IT Conference
August 26, 2004, Research Triangle Park, NC – The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) today confirmed a second keynote speaker and finalized panel session topics for InfoTech 2004. Blair Levin, Managing Director and telecom and media analyst for Legg Mason, in addition to previously announced speaker Flip Filipowski, will provide keynote remarks at the 14th annual InfoTech conference on Oct. 8 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in the RTP.
Levin has been on the frontlines of major changes in telecommunication policies since serving as chief of staff to former Federal Communications Commission Chairman Reed Hundt from 1993 to 1997. In the past several months, various news reports have mentioned Levin on the “short list” of potential candidates for future FCC Chairman, should Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry win the 2004 U.S. Presidential election. Levin now provides counsel to Legg Mason's clients on regulatory developments of importance to media and telecom investors. Levin has past ties to North Carolina, where he was formerly a partner in the Triangle-based law firm of Parker, Poe, Adams & Bernstein. A native of Los Angeles, Levin is a summa cum laude graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School.
“The willingness of Blair Levin and Flip Filipowski to share their experiences at InfoTech 2004 speaks to the growing strength of the Research Triangle and North Carolina as an important player in information technology,” said Bob Womble, co-chair of InfoTech 2004 and a partner with Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman, LLP, in Raleigh. “This year's InfoTech conference presents a unique opportunity to hear first-hand from industry experts and gain valuable insights into important IT trends.”
In addition to finalizing the keynote speaker lineup of Filipowski and Levin, CED has also announced the conference's panel topics covering a wide range of IT issues:
- Acquisition Strategy: Effective Navigation of Expected Surging Activity
- Buried Treasures: Uncovering University Technology
- The Convergence of Cellular and Wireless LAN Technologies
