CED’s InfoTech 2005 Spotlights Emerging IT Trends
ZumaTek, Inc. Wins People’s Choice Demo Awards
October 13, 2005, Research Triangle Park, NC – The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) hosted its 15th annual InfoTech conference today, with more than 650 people in attendance. The conference, held at the RTP Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center, connected entrepreneurs, investors, university researchers and others in the technology community.
InfoTech 2005 featured 10 concurrent panel sessions, 24 technology demos from across North Carolina, and keynote addresses from Walt Mossberg, personal technology columnist for the Wall Street Journal, and Kristina Johnson, dean of Duke University’s Pratt School of Engineering.
Mossberg kicked off the conference with a keynote speech on emerging technology trends. “Cutting edge technology innovations are increasingly being developed by smaller companies and organizations,” said Mossberg. “These smaller companies are growing because they are developing clever software that seamlessly integrates with clever hardware.”
During lunch, Johnson discussed breakthrough technologies at Duke and emphasized the importance of collaboration among industries. “The most successful emerging technologies will be a result of powerful collaborations across industries,” said Johnson.
In addition, all of the InfoTech 2005 demo participants were eligible for the 3rd Annual People’s Choice Awards, which were voted on by conference attendees. Durham-based ZumaTek, Inc. received the most votes, with Morrisville-based Field2Base collecting the second most votes. Both companies will receive several thousand dollars of free marketing consulting services from Maverick Marketing. These services can include any marketing or public relations services the company requires such as copywriting, design or new product public relations services.
