CED Headquarters Moving to New Research Triangle Location
8,643-Sq-Ft Space in Technology Center Will Increase CED’s Office and Meeting Capabilities
December 19, 2005, Research Triangle Park, NC – The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) today announced plans to move its headquarters to a new location in the Research Triangle.
Scheduled to open in February 2006, CED’s new Entrepreneurship Center will be located at The Alexandria Technology Center, 100 Capitola Drive, near the intersection of Alston Avenue and N.C. Highway 54. The building is approximately one mile from CED’s current Research Triangle Park location on Alexander Drive.
The 8,643-square-foot space on Capitola Drive will significantly increase CED’s office and meeting space. In particular, the building will feature a newly renovated classroom that can seat up to 150 people, which is nearly four times the capacity of CED’s current meeting facilities.
“We’ve seen some phenomenal growth in the Triangle’s entrepreneurial economy over the past few years,” said Monica Doss, who is entering her 20th year as CED’s president. “In 1997 we moved to our Alexander Drive office with plans for having 10 staff members. Eight years later, CED now has 20 full-time employees. We simply outgrew our space.”
Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc., which owns the space on Capitola Drive, approached CED earlier this year about leasing their facility. Joel Marcus, CEO of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, said CED was the perfect entrepreneurial and technology driven candidate for the location.
“CED is a unique organization that plays a vital role in supporting the region’s entrepreneurial economy,” said Marcus. “Our Technology Center on Capitola Drive will allow CED to expand its important work in supporting innovative start-ups and promoting a vibrant entrepreneurial culture.”
Rich Harris, Senior Director at GVA Advantis, a full-service real estate firm, represented CED in the transaction with Alexandria Real Estate Equities. Two of CED’s key partners - the North Carolina Biosciences Organization (NCBIO) and the North Carolina Medical Device Organization (NCMD) - also plan to share space with CED at the new Entrepreneurship Center.
About CED: The Council for Entrepreneurial Development, headquartered in Research Triangle Park with a divisional office in Wilmington, is a private, non-profit organization formed in 1984 to stimulate the creation and growth of high-impact companies in various North Carolina innovation centers. In July 2005, Wilmington’s Coastal Entrepreneurial Council merged with CED to create CED-Coastal, a divisional office focused on entrepreneurial development in Wilmington and throughout North Carolina’s entire coastal region. CED provides education, mentoring and capital formation resources to new and existing high-growth entrepreneurs through annual conferences, seminars, workshops and programs on entrepreneurial management and finance. CED is the largest and oldest entrepreneurial support organization in the nation with more than 4,000 members representing over 1,100 entrepreneurial companies, financiers and professional firms. www.cednc.org.
