CED’s Tech 2007 Showcases Top Technologies and Industry Leaders
Conference Serves Up the Latest Products and Services, Offers a Promising Tech Forecast
October 12, 2007, RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) recognized the most innovative technologies from around the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic on Thursday (October 11) at its 17th annual Tech conference.
Thirty companies demonstrated their technologies in the exclusive Tech 2007 Demo Pavilion, with two companies being selected as standouts by conference attendees for the coveted “Tech 2007 People’s Choice Award”. Secure Command LLC, Fairfax, VA placed first and Yap, Inc., Charlotte, NC placed second respectively in Tech’s 5th annual awards program.
The conference featured keynote remarks from Edward Iacobucci, President and CEO of DayJet Corporation and founder and former chairman of Citrix Systems; and Ron Louks, Vice President and CTO of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications (USA) Inc. Attendees also took in a panel discussion on corporate acquisition and investment strategies with David Horowitz, Principal, Comcast Interactive Capital (CIC); Greg Pelton, Senior Director, Cisco Technology Center, Cisco Systems, Inc.; and Heather Rebuelta, Investment Manager, Motorola Ventures.
For tech industry forecasting with a twist, well-known national media panelists offered their take on the technologies found in the Tech 2007 Demo Pavilion as well as the future of the tech industry including where to find tomorrow’s tech hotbeds and trends on the horizon. Media analysts included Eric Auchard, Chief Technology Correspondent, Reuters; Donna Bogatin, Founder and Chief Analyst, InsiderChatter.com; and Don Dodge, Director of Business Development for Microsoft’s Emerging Business Team and popular blogger, Don Dodge on The Next Big Thing.
A highlight of the conference was a special Gaming Reception featuring more than 12 technology demos from Virtual Heroes, Emergent and UNC-Chapel Hill, whose applications range from traditional gaming to medical imaging and defense security.
The event, held at the Friday Center on the University of North Carolina campus in Chapel Hill, attracted close to 550 attendees representing entrepreneurial companies, venture and angel investment firms, professional service providers and university researchers.
